Discover Kos

Trip information

An overview of the island, its picturesque villages, green landscapes, wild beaches, sacred temple of healing, the Asclepeion, and its local flavors.

Information

Of course, Kos is famous for being the birthplace of Hippocrates (the father of the medicine) but there is so much more to explore during this tour.

The first stop is the Asklepion, an amazing archaeological find that will truly transport you back to ancient Greece.  Constructed in the 4th century BC, it was not only a temple consecrated to the God Asklepios (the God of Health), but also a health resort.

For sure you will like the next stop at Zia. A small lively mountain village from where you have a superb view. Zia has recently become the hub of the local arts and crafts on the island and the village hosts many small shops selling such items (olive oil, honey, kanelada, pottery…).

After Zia we will continue to the fishermen village of Mastichari. With sandy beaches & traditional restaurants, the Mastichari is the port for Kalymnos Island. Here you will have time to swim and have lunch (not provided).

Next stop Kefalos. Kefalos is the most south-western village of the island and boasts some of the best beaches on Kos. You will have the opportunity to take some nice photos. We will also visit a family-run honey factory, where bee-keeping has been in the family for generations. You will discover how they make honey, taste the typical “loukoumades” (mini honey donuts) and discover “rakomelo” (raki with honey).

Finally, take the road to Antimachia, the village located in the middle of the island, next to the airport. Wandering around you will, also, see a 200-year-old windmill in the center and a traditional house, showing how the locals used to live in years gone by.
